Finally watched the second half of Blow tonight. Third time's a charm. Even if it was a tv version on FX. (I love to listen for the words they use in place of expletives. "Awe junk!") Weird to think that George Jung gets out of prison in 3.5 years. I wonder if he'll go back to his old ways...
I also wonder about Kristina Jung's acquaintances in 2001. As they glance sideways across the room. "Um, Kristina. Is your dad a super hot coke dealer? And if so, you should totally go visit him in jail!"

We Still Believe
I was looking through my bookmarks on my computer this evening and came across Team Believe. It's been over two years since our TNT race in Nashville. It seems like just yesterday, and it seems like a
million years ago. Looking back at that website is a nice little reminder. We can do awesome things when we put our minds to it. That was one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I would love to thank everyone again who helped Team Believe surpass our goal and run together to help fight blood cancers. I think about those months all the time. I remember why we ran it. I remember the heartbreaking story of Amber's diagnosis and fight. And I remember the day Kandi got the call informing her that Amber lost her fight. There was no question when Eric suggested we run. Of course. That was exactly what we would do for Amber. I am so thankful for that team, our early morning runs, and our wonderful weekend in Nashville.Tuesday, May 24, 2011
Pho You!
Matt plays tennis with a guy that lives two buildings down from us. He is Vietnamese and a self-proclaimed gourmet chef. Good news is, he really can cook. Tonight we went over and had pho, pronounced fuh. It's a very traditional Vietnamese meal. And it was really good. I'm sure I would have never ordered it somewhere, but I am so glad to have tied it.
In other news - Walmart makes pineapple sherbet. As far as frozen desserts go, this stuff is amazing! So light that you can want to just eat and eat. Super flavorful. And fat free! I may as well be eatting a carrot!
In other, other news Matt is building us a computer this week. He ordered all the parts and they are starting to come in. I'm pretty excited about this. A couple of weeks ago I needed to watch an episode of Brothers and Sisters(I miss it already) that was erased off the dvr. I tried and tried and tried to watch it on my laptop. But something about ram and memory blah blah blah. I got 20 minutes in 3 times and the picture just stopped. The sound was still blowin and goin. But no picture. I look forward to catching up on missed tv episodes. Surfing multiple websites at once. Double clicking the iTunes icon and not waiting 2 minutes for it to open. Hello technology!!

Bobbins
Bobbins have nothing to do with Lord of the Rings. Up until I got my sewing machine for Christmas you could have convinced me that they did. I recently emptied my first bobbin. Not too exciting, it was just white. But I also emptied my whole spool of white. There's been some sewing. My most recent triumph was a tote bag for Mother's Day.

It's much larger than I thought it would be, and I'm glad. It will actually be usable.

I'm proud of it. Thank you Amy Butler for the great pattern!

Fried shrimp, boiled shrimp...
When I was young I loved popcorn shrimp. I can remember ordering it all the time. Something happened in my late teens and I no longer liked shrimp. This went on for years, the no shrimp eating. Then we moved down here. I remember the turning point exactly. John Besh published his My New Orleans cook book right after we got here. I bought myself a copy then went to a book signing at Octavia Books. It was actually a book signing and tasting. He cooked shrimp creole and everyone (all 20 of us) got a small serving with two large tail-on shrimp. There was no way I was going to turn down his food. And there was no way I was going to risk the chance of him seeing me not finish it all. So I ate it all. And it was not bad. Since then I have been more open-minded about shrimp. I have even gone so far as to order shrimp poboys on multiple occasions. Thank you Verti Mart for reopening! I think I'm back on the shrimp train, and it's bound for glory!

Horrible!!!
New Orleans has many wonderful seasons. Strawberry season. Carnival season. Creole tomato season. Snoball season. Crawfish season. Emily and I have discovered a season that we do NOT like. Termite swarming season. Freaking disgusting!!! They just show up in your house/apt. Everywhere!! There is nothing ok with this.

Life and Death
Deni's first baby shower was a success. Plenty of people showed up, food was good, and there was champagne punch for the lucky few of us with no buns in our ovens. And she got lots of cute stuff. She did not, however, get a lot of necessities off of her registry. This is something I will never understand. We are encouraged when getting married or having a baby to register for stuff that we want and need. But people don't get us that stuff. They get us what they think we want and need. Thank you for the ugly $40 vase that I can't return and the random shaped bunt pan that I did (those people have no chance of reading this, so I'm safe.) So, if you're reading this and haven't gotten Sister a baby gift yet, she's registered at Babies R Us. And unless you're buying the tiny scrubs, she doesn't need anymore clothes.
In other world news - Osama bin Laden was killed yesterday. It's amazing what some people have the gall to say about this. I am not so much rejoicing his death. I would be just as happy if he had simply been captured. 'Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.' For nine and a half years we have tried to find this man. Unfortunately we were never able to obtain him alive. I can see how and why people would feel that justice has been served for all of the lives that have been lost over the attacks and the following war. But I know that no matter what we as Americans and humans did or could have done, God had his own plan for that awful man. I just hope that his death doesn't bring a rising of revenge from his side of the sea.
Finally, for tonight, I will be forever indebted to by husband for turning me on to Cherry Pepto. Just smelling the original flavor made me want to hurl. But now I can get the magical pink liquid down to my tummy to actually do some good. Sadly, it hasn't helped yet tonight. No dinner for me.
