I deliberated kind of long and a little hard about what I wanted to give up for Lent. I always give up some unhealthy food for Lent. I think my main motive is always to lose weight. It's not about understanding Christ's sacrifice. My New Year's Resolutions this year included things to help me live a more healthy life all around. I'm doing pretty well with my resolutions thus far.
But now I need to do something more. Something different. Something that will remind me every day to thank God for sending his son to live with us. So I commit to blogging every day until Easter.
And so...
The past few days brought Carnival season to a close. Thursday night Chris and Matt met me and Emily at the office after work. We hung around a couple of

hours and caught a few parades - Babylon, Chaos, and Muses. Those Muses ladies are a bunch of teases! We didn't see a single shoe leave a float.
I will admit to eating a LOT of King Cake since 12th night and enjoying every bit of it. I even made on Saturday thanks to a recipe posted by an
old friend. It turned out awesome! The Beaubouefs and McPeters were supposed to go to Caitlin's mom's house on Orleans Avenue to watch Endymion Saturday. Bad weather moved the parade to Sunday and away from Orleans Avenue... So we improvised. I made a pork roast. Emily brought the dips she made and we had our own little party. The boys played Madden 2011 while we danced to Justin Timberlake. Then Emily and Matt beat me and Chris in spades. We ended the night with Mario Kart wii and some TV show with barely dressed criminals. I will go so far as to say the night was a success.

Did you know there is a city in Mississippi called Petal? Well my friend Caitlin moved there on New Year's Eve. And Sunday, we visited. We took a break out of the Mardi Gras festivities to celebrate Noah Oldenburg's 1st birthday. I was so happy to see Caitlin - I've missed her like crazy. The Dr. Seuss theme was very cute with green deviled eggs and ham sandwiches. And the cake was cute and very tasty. I would say the 4 hour round trip was well worth it! We will definitely be going back to spend a whole weekend with our friends soon.
Monday was work as usual and heading to bed as early as possible. Because Tuesday would bring a 4:30 wake up to head the CBD to catch the Zulu parade. It was early, but I am so happy that we went. It was probably a

once in a lifetime experience because I'm sure that I won't be able to talk Matt into that again. Near the front of the parade one of the walkers approached the cop the was keeping order in our area. Apparently he needed her to move the railing so that he could get through the crowd for a much needed potty break. He walked right by us to head to the port-a-potties. We got ready for his return in order to snap a quick pic. Much to my surprise as he passed he handed me treasure! A highly coveted Zulu coconut!! You would have thought I just won the lottery by my excitement and racing heart! I'm sure I overreacted, but I was pumped! And now I will show you, in detail, my Zulu coconut...
